Dr. Jessica Flynn

Psychologist

Dr. Flynn completed her master’s degree in developmental psychology at Queen’s University, Canada, and her doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Primary Children’s Hospital in Utah, providing individual and family therapy and assessment for children and adolescents in outpatient, day treatment, and residential settings. She completed her postdoctoral training at Utah Center for Evidence Based Treatment in Utah, specializing in Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

Dr. Flynn provides Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other evidence-based treatments for complex mood and anxiety disorders across development. She has specialized training in mindfulness and acceptance-based cognitive-behavioral therapies based on the newest research. She integrates knowledge of empirically-supported treatments and research on meditation with her wide-ranging experience as a therapist and contemplative practitioner. Her goal is to use this approach to help children, adolescents, and adults suffering from chronic and complex emotional problems to begin living happy, fulfilling lives.

Dr. Flynn’s distinctions include: (1) 2013-2014 Jeannette and Louis Reuter Graduate Fellowship in Developmental Science, (2) 2010-2011 Francisco J. Varela Research Award ($15000) Mind and Life Institute, (3) 2010-2013 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Fellowship, (4) 2008-2009 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council CGS Master’s Award. She has authored and co-authored a number of scientific papers in journals such as Behavior Research Methods, Psychological Science, Psychology and Neuroscience, Canadian Journal of Behavioral Science, Journal of Child and Family Studies, Developmental Psychobiology, Journal of Personality and Individual Differences and Social Neuroscience.

Dr. Flynn has led numerous seminars for the community in dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness and self-compassion. She is passionate about providing this public service as well as conducting professional trainings and consulting with mental health providers on these topics.
