Dr. Cheryl Fernandes

Psychologist and Director Child & Adolescent

Dr. Cheryl Fernandes completed her Ph.D. in 2010, graduating from York University. She completed her advanced clinical training at McMaster Children’s Hospital in the Child and Youth Mental Health Outpatient Service, completing rotations in outpatient child and family mental health services, adolescent eating disorders and pediatric oncology. Dr. Fernandes also completed clinical training in the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board and at Kinark Child and Family Services and has worked in private practice since 2001. Currently Dr. Fernandes is a staff psychologist at the Child and Youth Mental Health Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital, where she has been employed in various capacities since 2008. She is an Assistant Professor (PT) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. She has co-authored peer reviewed publications in the areas of child maltreatment and psycho-social oncology and a book chapter on the cognitive aspects of chronic illness in children. Dr. Fernandes has been actively involved in training and supervising psychology graduate students and staff in the provision of psychological assessment and treatment. Dr. Fernandes’s clinical interests include psycho-educational and psycho-diagnostic assessment and treatment. Her primary theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
