Psychologist

Dr. Rebecca Stead specializes in working with adults of all ages who experience a wide range of psychological concerns, including depression, anxiety (e.g., social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder), obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma, interpersonal problems, emotional dysregulation, chronic pain, insomnia, stress, and self-esteem challenges. Dr. Stead endeavours to provide empirically supported treatments. Her primary theoretical orientation is cognitive behavioural therapy, but she also integrates aspects of dialectical behaviour therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, schema-focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy into her work. Dr. Stead is passionate about using a client-centered and strengths-based approach and she strives to provide a non-judgmental, warm, and safe environment for her clients to make therapeutic change. She also provides comprehensive psychological assessments of mood and anxiety related difficulties.

Dr. Stead earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University, where she also completed her Master’s degree. Her distinctions include several scholarships granted by both the provincial and federal government for her psychology research. She completed her residency at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, where she trained extensively in the assessment and treatment of adults and older adults with various complex mental health difficulties in the Mood and Anxiety Disorders program, as well as the Schizophrenia Program and the Geriatric Psychiatry Program. Most recently, she has worked in Private Practice addressing a variety of mental health challenges with adults. She has extensive training in both tertiary care and private settings conducting complex differential diagnosis and engaging adults in treatment, even when they have had limited success working with other mental health care professionals in the past.
