Faryal Khan

Practicum Student Therapist

Faryal Khan is a PhD student in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of Guelph. She has experience providing psychotherapy and psychological assessment to children, adolescents, and families across clinical and school settings. She has worked with young people with a range of emotional, behavioural, social, and developmental needs.

Faryal takes an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from evidence-based practices and tailoring treatment to the unique needs, strengths, and goals of each client. Her work incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and strengths-based approaches. She views therapy as a collaborative process and values taking the time to understand each person within the broader context of their experiences and environment.

Faryal strives to create a warm and non-judgmental space where individuals feel comfortable being themselves. She values compassion, authenticity, collaboration, and helping youth develop a greater understanding of themselves and their experiences. Faryal is committed to providing safe, affirming, and inclusive care for clients of diverse identities and backgrounds, including members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, racialized groups, and neurodivergent individuals.

Faryal’s research examines neurocognitive functioning among individuals involved in the justice system, with a particular interest in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Her research contributes to her broader interest in understanding the complex developmental, cognitive, and environmental factors that shape behaviour and well-being.

Above all, Faryal hopes to help young people feel understood and supported as they develop the insight, skills, and confidence to move through challenges in ways that feel meaningful to them.
