Dr. Nirvana Maharaj has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. She uses a genuine, non-judgmental, and collaborative approach when providing evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and techniques from Emotion Focused Family Therapy. She works from a strengths-based approach and provides assessment and treatment for clients who have experienced a variety of difficulties including: trauma, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, behavioural issues, emotional dysregulation, interpersonal problems and parenting challenges. Nirvana is dedicated to collaboratively finding the tools that work best for her clients as they work toward their value based goals at a pace that feels most comfortable for them.
Dr. Nirvana Maharaj completed her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology at the Florida School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University Tampa, Florida. She completed an APA accredited internship at MercyFirst, a residential treatment centre for adolescents in Long Island, New York, where she provided trauma informed evidence- based treatment and completed comprehensive psychological assessments for adolescents. Throughout her clinical training, she worked internationally with multi-cultural clients in multiple clinical settings including: schools, hospitals, college counselling, employee assistance programs, and community mental health placements.
